REVIEW: Genius Makeup and Sweat-Shields -- Multifunctional Disposable Protective Hat Liners From Temu

By The Treasure-Sharer

hat liner from Temu promo picI got in big trouble when I got makeup on my man's hat last summer, so when I stumbled across disposable protective hat liners for sale on Temu, I saw them not as sweat-absorbers or hat sweat liners, but as shields for protecting hats -- for both guys and girls -- from makeup.

My man told me that girls who had borrowed his hats in the past had also gotten their makeup on them at the band -- so it's actually pretty common -- but the cap he had lent me to wear was a special vintage baseball cap I had gifted him that was in pretty pristine condition, and had resale value for its rarity and excellent condition, and my makeup had marred it and ruined that, and its previous perfection.

I felt SO bad, definitely not wanting to ruin the gift I had given him. I knew its value because I had always wanted one and had initially bought it for myself and kept it for its sentimental value on display, since it was in such good condition, but had decided to gift it to my man, since I thought he could both appreciate it, and wear it well, and I wanted to be able to give him a good gift that I could be proud to have gifted him. It was a really nice model of an official NBA baseball cap from our city's basketball team that wasn't issued anymore, and I was even with him when a random hat collector on the street called out to him just to ask him about it and compliment him on it, and he was even recently complimented by some store clerks at a specialty hat store on it. It was the kind of hat that deserved special care and attention, which is why I hadn't even chosen to wear it, so getting it stained by my makeup was a huge deal.

Thankfully, he asked The Vagabond to see if she could wash it out, and she worked her magic and somehow managed to do it, but my man still thought that it wasn't the same, because he knew it wasn't perfect anymore.

If you have a special, favorite, or super-expensive hat that you don't want to risk getting stained with makeup, sweat, or dirt, then you need to buy these hat liners and put them in your hat BEFORE you wear it.

That's what my man did with two new expensive New Era 59Fifty NBA and MLB caps he splurged on at the hat store where he'd gotten the one I'd given him complimented at.

See below to see one of the pinwheel flat bill hats my man bought that he had The Vagabond put a hat liner into, to see what a well-placed hat liner looks like. These hat protectors work on all baseball caps, including snapbacks and velcro-adjustable caps.

I had actually bought and given him two of the disposible hat liners the year before, after the makeup incident, and he told me that he had saved them until now to specifically put into brand-new hats.

I honestly wish I had known, because I would have given him more to put into his old hats in the meantime, since I had bought a 20-pack of black and white hat liners. I like that the pack I bought had both black and white disposable hat liners, since the different colors offer versatility, so that you can wear the white hat liners with white and light-colored hats, and black hat liners with black and dark-colored hats. You can also choose to buy them only in one color, depending on your needs. See below for some promo images taken from the Temu page for the hat liners, featuring the different color options available, and close-ups of how they look.

The hat protectors are wide enough to protect the sections that stain the most, though some reviewers find them to be too wide. They are also big for children's hats, but can be cut to size. See below for the hat liner dimensions displayed in Temu promo ads for the disposable hat liners:

More Than Just Hat Protectors

The disposable hat liners can line more than just hats, and can also be used on shirt collars and cuffs. I've even seen that one reviewer uses them on the band inside his pants. They are great for absorbing sweat so that you don't have to worry about having stains in embarrasing areas of your clothes. See below to see how you can stick them on the collar of your jacket or shirt to help absorb sweat there, and for a diagram showing how well the hat liners are supposed to absorb sweat and other liquids, in images taken from Temu promo ads:

Pantyliners For Other Areas

The hat liners are literally like mini pantyliners for absorbing liquids and preventing stains on clothes other than underwear. They function like and are made of very similar material to the sanitary pads that women use on the lightest days of their periods -- but on your hat and any other parts of your clothes that you decide to stick them onto. They have adhesive on one side that you can stick to the band of your hat or to the bands of your clothes, with adhesive strength and ease of removal similar to that of a pantyliner.

See below to see how they come packaged, and how they look like:

I honestly believe that how well they stay on depends on how well you initially apply them, like how it works with a pantyliner. I know that when it comes to pantyliners, they can stay on all day if I apply them to good spot that ensures that all the sticky parts have cloth to stick to, and if I don't move them around too much. If I accidentally stick them on awkwardly, or have to adjust where I put them, or put them on less securely, then it's possible for them to loosen or move around. I think that the same thing happens with these disposible hat liners.

sticker part of hat liner taken from Temu promo adI've read some customer reviews for the disposable hat liners I bought, and for those sold by other vendors, that say that the hat liners have poor adhesion, with others who have tried them saying that the adhesion is weak, some saying that the hat liners fall off, and others saying that the ends can come loose.

In my experience, they stick pretty well, but I did have one of the hat liners I applied to one hat fall off on its own while I wasn't wearing my hat, so that I'm not sure what caused that to happen. Another hat liner I used on a different hat has stayed on since I applied it, for several months. See the image to the side to see how the sticker part of the hat liner looks like.

If you look at the first hat liner I applied, which you can see images of below, you can see that I did a very messy job with the application, since I hadn't realized how complicated it was to apply it on a curve. You can also see how well the hat liner served as a makeup shield for my hat, and the foundation it prevented from smudging onto my baseball cap.

However messily-applied it was, it has still stayed on since I first applied it, and I'm confident that it won't fall off. Other customers have commented that the hat liners take practice to put on. I agree, since you have to get used to placing a straight sticker on a curve. I think that they will probably stick fine if you press down on them from end to end after you're happy with their placement, to ensure that they're adequately and evenly stuck on completely.

Easy to Change

Like sanitary pads, the disposible protective hat liners can be peeled off easily, and don't leave behind any sticky residue once removed. This allows you to change them as often as you want, and as often as you need, depending on how much you sweat, and your tolerance for stainage. I saw a review where the person said that one could last him the whole year, and I agree, in my case, as I don't feel that I have sweat from my head enough to necessitate changing it, and it still also protects my hat's band from makeup. Others who sweat a lot or do a lot of activity report changing their hat sweat liners every three days, or even daily. The price for the hat liners in multiple quantities makes them economical even to change frequently, and you can buy bigger quantities from different vendors to save even more. Gem or Junk?

For us: Gem: 3 stars and a half out of 5

The hat liners from Temu are a super-cheap way to protect your hats and clothing from sweat, makeup, stains, and shape distortion due to constant washing -- such a small investment to keep your hats and other clothes in good shape, and protect your particularly expensive or special hats.

Whether you sweat a lot, or regularly wear makeup, if you wear hats and want to preserve their shape, or simply want to save yourself the time and trouble of having to wash them frequently, the hat sweat liners from Temu work very effectively at protecting your hats, and are also possible to use to protect other parts of your clothes where sweat accumulates.

My man and I have only tried them on baseball caps, and my man has only been using them for a few days, so he gives them 3.5 to 3.8 stars since he doesn't feel that he can definitively rate them yet. I give them 3 stars and a half because I had one of the hat liners I applied fall off my hat, but I still think they're worth using, and know that they're meant to be, and were advertised as, disposable and meant to be changed anyway, so I can't really fault the product for not lasting forever.

For the low price, they're definitely worth trying out, and definitely worth buying a bunch of from the start. I'd recommend getting some of each color for maximum flexibility and adaptability, but it's totally fine to just choose one color if you only need or prefer one type.
